Daniel (Dan) Freund was having a meeting with "MediaMan" John Herman, (that name AGAIN), a few weeks back; he wanted to run an idea by him, maybe get input. "We were at the Press Room. I was explaining my interest in developing an on-line media network," says Freund. "John buried his face in his laptop, saying nothing, and not paying attention." Or so he thought.
Actually Herman was creating an account as Freund explained it. "He was like — 'you just have to fill in videos. ...; It's a television in a box. Here you go," says Freund, a touch of awe to the voice. "He kind of feeds off that quick intense work mode."
So, ShortStream (SS) "is alive." Currently, it is primarily Freund with Herman a third party discussing joining forces. For now, they're working on development concepts together, "and working how it can really be of benefit to the community," says Freund. "That's the original intention of the project, developing something that allows the community to kind of learn about itself through the video projects." It's also planned as one-stop shopping for Portsmouth produced media art.
Freund envisions it as an entrance into media network and a demonstration of its benefits; "at a common and accessible level," says Freund, who owns and operates Kinney Hill Media Partners. "It opens up the accessibility through very attainable tools; a camera and way to edit."
Which brings us to you. SS is putting out a call for content — yours. "We're looking for short projects that require a minimal time commitment from anyone involved. ...; A 2 to 4 minute piece." Series are welcome.
Freund is creating his own interview series talking to area residents and notables. Already up, an interview with Steve Fowle of the NH Gazette. The station runs 24 hours a day, a continuous loop of its current 10 videos. "I want it to be an umbrella for interesting stories about our community." Interested?
